Jacob VanWyk, 78, of W2765 Highway 28, Sheboygan Falls, peacefully went home to his Lord on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at his home. Jacob was born on December 31, 1930 in Sheboygan Falls, son of the late Dirk and Anna (Vanbergijk) VanWyk. He was a 1949 graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School and served in the US Army during the Korean conflict, serving in France from 1952-54. On June 11, 1954 he married Marlys Brasser in Hingham. Jacob was employed as a laborer with Richardson Bros. for 43 years until his retirement in 1993. Jacob was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls where he served as an elder, deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, the choir, Men's Bible Study, the Keenagers, and helped as a usher. He was also a member of the Pine Haven Christian Board, the American Legion, and the Pine Haven Men's Chorus. Jacob and his wife volunteered his time with the Discipleship Focus in Branson, MO for 10 years. He enjoyed spending his time traveling, gardening, woodworking, reading, playing golf, bowling, visiting with friends, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always willing to help other people. Survivors include his wife Marlys; one daughter, Linda (Mark) Tigges of Waukee, IA; two sons, Jeffrey (Nancy) VanWyk, and Dale (Shari) VanWyk, both of Sheboygan Falls; seven grandchildren, Cody (Elizabeth) Tigges, Carson Tigges, Carissa Tigges, Garrett and Katie VanWyk, and Noah and Brianna VanWyk; one sister, Nicki Ongna of Sheboygan Falls; two brothers, William VanWyk and Peter (Delores) VanWyk, both of Sheboygan Falls. Jacob was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Zachary Jacob VanWyk and Ryan Jeffrey VanWyk; a young sister, Wilhelmina VanWyk; one sister-in-law, Edith VanWyk; and one brother-in-law, Cal Ongna. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 on Monday, July 6, 2009 at First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls with the Rev. Brad Veenendaal officiating. Burial will follow at the Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Sunday, July 5, 2009 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm and on Monday from 9:00 until the time of the service at 10:30.
