Howard J. Bimmel, 87, of Sheboygan Falls passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Pine Haven Christian Home. Howard was born on September 1, 1929 in Sheboygan to Roy and Nellie (Reimes) Bimmel. He was a graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School. He served his country in the United States Army from 1952-1954, serving in the Korean War. On April 30, 1954 he married Helen Veldman at the First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls. She preceded him in death on July 7, 1997. Howard was a proud dairy farmer his entire life. Howard is a member of First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls, where he served as an usher, deacon and a member of Keenagers. Howard was the last surviving founder of the Town of Sheboygan Falls (South) Fire Department, where he was assistant chief for many years. Howard was also a member of the Farm Bureau and Campus Life. Howard enjoyed playing cards, bingo, attending local fundraisers and concerts, traveling throughout the United States, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Howard is survived by his two sons, Gary (Sue) Bimmel and Steven (Carol) Bimmel; one daughter, Judy Bimmel, all of Sheboygan Falls; grandchildren, Mark (Tiffany) Bimmel and their children, Michael, Nicholas and Matthew, Marcia (Chad) Smith and their children, Gavin and Kora, Paul (Tiffany) Bimmel and their children, Gage, Link, Waverly, Fairren, and Brixton, Todd (Heidi) Bimmel and baby due anyday, whom Howard was looking forward to meeting, Jennifer (Alex) Torborg, LCpl Peter Bimmel and David Bimmel; one sister, Lucile LeMahieu; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don (Carol) VandeKreeke, Willard Veldman, Gertrude Graaskamp, Sharon (Ronald) Petrauski; an AFS granddaughter, Lorena (Ryan) Brunette; and dear and special friend and companion, Helen VanEss and her family. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Howard is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; two great grandsons, Finn and Carson; one brother, Ronald (Erna and Margaret) Bimmel; one sister, Shirley VandeKreeke; brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman LeMahieu, LaVerne Veldman, Winifred Graaskamp, LaMont Huenink, and Delores (Lloyd) Hoitink. A funeral service to celebrate Howard's life will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 12:30 pm at the First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Brad Veenendaal officiating. Burial will be at the Sheboygan Falls Cemetery at 3:30 pm with military honors. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the church from 9:30 am until the time of service at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established in Howard's name. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staffs of Pine Haven Christian Home, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Dr. Brooks and Dr. Kuttickat and their staffs at Aurora for all of the care and compassion they gave to Howard.
