Herbert Stapelkamp

Herbert W. Stapelkamp, 90, of Cedar Grove passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Anita's Gardens in Port Washington. He was born on May 19, 1926 in Cedar Grove to Henry and Christina (Huenink) Stapelkamp, and attended Cedar Grove High School. Herbert served in the United States Marine Corps from 1945-1946 during WWII. On August 27, 1949 he married Adeline Lineau in Baraboo. She preceded him in death on December 1, 2014. In 1948, he began working at JM Bruce Foundry in Cedar Grove, where he was shop foreman and worked for 40 years until his retirement in 1988. Herbert was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove. He recently celebrated his 70th year of being a member of the American Legion Post # 338, where he was a former post commander. Herbert was a 2012 participant in the Stars and Stripes Honors Flight, which was a memorable trip for both him and his daughter, Patricia. On June 24, 2016 he was presented a quilt by the Camo Quilt Project for his service to his country. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Packers, Brewers and Bucks. He enjoyed fishing and bowling, but most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren. Herbert is survived by his five daughters, Patricia Stapelkamp, Roxanne (Ronnald) Tyler of Houston, TX, Pam (Kurt) Ostmann of Wausau, Lori Bilgrien of Apple Valley, MN, and Lynn (Steven) Harber of Austin, MN; one son, Richard (Debra) Stapelkamp of Cedar Grove; ten grandchildren, Dennis (Laura) Stapelkamp, Kevin (April) Stapelkamp, Gail (Tyler) Biederwolf, Michael McQuide, David (Jennifer) Ostmann, Roanne Ostmann, Katie Bilgrien, Eric Bilgrien, Christopher (Ali) Harber and Mark Harber; nine great-grandchildren, Shelby, Kyndall, Gadge, Claire, Kate, Madison, Eleanor, Kallen, and Jocelyn; and two sisters, Alma Hoopman and Shirley Kurth. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 65 years, Adeline; one son, William Henry "Billy" Stapelkamp; one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Earl Heidemann; and two brothers-in-law, Wilmer Hoopman and Ralph Kurth. A funeral service to celebrate Herbert's life will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 11am at First Reformed Church with Rev. Al Schut officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the church from 9am until the time of service at 11am. A memorial fund is being established for the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight and First Reformed Church in Herbert's name.
