Herbert L. Roerdink, 64, of Oostburg died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday morning, February 13, 2013. Herb was born on June 15, 1948 in Sheboygan, the son of Herbert and Corrine (Buehler) Roerdink Sr. He graduated from Oostburg High School in 1966 and served in the US Army National Guard. On April 4, 1970 he married Gloria VanEss in Oostburg. Herb was a building contractor for many years owning Oostburg Roofing and Siding. He also worked at Rich-Line Builders and most recently at Ongna Wood Products. Herb was a member of Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg where he served as a deacon and trustee. Herb was a WIAA baseball umpire for over 30 years. He enjoyed baseball, golf, bowling, motorcycle riding and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Herb was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; two daughters, Kelly (Joel) Kolste of Sheboygan, Kerri (Ralph) Mispagel of Yorkville, IL; one son, Kevin (Melanie) Roerdink of Greenville; seven grandchildren, Brendan, Brookelyn, Brigitte, and Brady Mispagel, Madison, Ethan, and Beckett Roerdink; one sister, VelRae Gartman of Oostburg; his father-in-law, Lloyd VanEss of Plymouth; one sister-in-law, Vicki (Dan) Nyhof of Oostburg; and three brothers-in-law, Gary Soerens of Cedar Grove, Ron (Mary) VanEss of Oostburg, and Dale (Linda) VanEss of Minneapolis. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Corrine Roerdink Sr.; one sister, Shirley Soerens; a brother-in-law Glenn Gartman; and his two mothers-in-law, Doris and Dorothy VanEss. A funeral to celebrate Herb's life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg with the Rev. John Tinsley officiating. A family service will precede in the fellowship hall at 1:45 pm. Burial will follow at Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Family and friends will gather at Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg on Friday from 3-8 pm, and on Saturday from 1 pm until the time of the service at 2 pm.
