Harvey Geiken

Harvey L. Geiken, 82, of 107 Highland St., Adell, died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at St. Nicholas Hospital. He was born January 15, 1926 in Lennox, SD, the son of the late Harm G. and Sophie (Straatmeyer) Geiken. On August 21, 1948 he married Grace H. Painter in Lennox, SD. Harvey worked at West Bend Co. for 20 years before retiring in 1988. Harvey was a member of Hingham Reformed Church. He enjoyed fix-it projects, Christmas decorating, gardening, card playing and camping. Survivors include his wife, Grace of Adell; one daughter, Diane Kollmann of Plymouth; two sons, Harlan (Florence) Geiken of West Bend, Mark Geiken of Adell; eight grandchildren, Tina Kollmann, Jamie (Jenny) Geiken, Kelly Mellon, Kimberly (Patrick) McGrath, Nichole Meyer, Timothy Geiken, Eric Geiken and Kayla Geiken; 14 great grandchildren; three sisters, Genevieve Schmidt of Sioux Falls, SD, Albertha (George) Albers of Tea, SD, Joyce (Justin) Uhe of Sioux Falls, SD; a sister-in-law, Lois Geiken of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother-in-law, Lowell Luden of Rochelle, Ill; and a foster son, Patrick (Barbara) Manley of Johnstown, CO. He was preceded in death by two sons, David and Brian Geiken; one brother, Gerhard Geiken; one sister, Jeanette Luden and one brother-in-law, Albert Schmidt. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Hingham Reformed Church, with the Rev. Steven J Bakker, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at Lennox Cemetery in the Lennox, SD. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. A memorial fund will be established in his name.
