Harold TenPas

Harold Glenn TenPas , 93, of Oostburg died on Wednesday afternoon, May 28, 2014 at St. Nicholas Hospital. Harold was born on December 2, 1920. He is the son of the late Harry and Jennie (Lohuis) TenPas. He attended Oostburg High School where he graduated in 1938 and served as Senior class President. On May 2, 1952, he married Dorothy Dekker at her parents' home in Sheboygan. In September of 1942, he was drafted into the Army and served until November of 1945. During his service in North Africa and Italy, Harold was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Harold started at Tecumseh as a Machinist and retired in 1986 as a Journeyman tool and die maker. Harold also worked as an office manager for the Oostburg Canning Company and managed the family farm his entire life. Harold was a member of Gibbsville Reformed Church where he served as an Elder, Deacon, and the Vice President of Men's Fellowship group. He was a member of the Hartman-Lammers American Legion Post No. 286 of Oostburg where he served as Post Commander and Treasurer. He enjoyed playing softball, reading, gardening, farming, and his favorite being farm auctions. He enjoyed spending time with his family, attending his grandchildren's school activities, and greatly enjoyed talking at length about local family genealogy and local history. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy; four daughters, Nancy Josiah of Oostburg, Teresa (George) Rogahn of Franklin, Marilyn (Timothy) Wieskamp of Oostburg, Julie (John) Newton of Belgium; five sons, Harlan (Sandra) of Lake Forest, IL, Jeff (Sally) of Winters, CA, Carl G. (Barbara) of Sheboygan Falls, Richard (Ruth) of Sheboygan, David (Phyllis) of Milwaukee; 16 grandchildren, Mark TenPas, Matthew TenPas, Adam TenPas, Benjamin TenPas, Caleb TenPas, Nyande Josiah, Lahai Josiah, Keimba Josiah, Kortu Josiah, Maatilor Josiah, Luke Rogahn, Jonathan Wieskamp, Hannah Wieskamp, Angela Wieskamp, Rebecca Wieskamp, Aaron Newton; one sister-in-law, Margaret Hilbelink; brothers-in-law, Martin Dekker, Theodore Dekker. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A funeral to celebrate Harold's life will take place at the Gibbsville Reformed Church at 11am on Monday June 2, 2014 with the Rev. John Ornee officiating. A family service will precede in the choir room at 10:45am. The burial will follow at Gibbsville Cemetery.
