Harold Simmelink

Harold W. Simmelink, 85, of Sheboygan, formerly of Cedar Grove and North Fond du Lac, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2011, at Morningside Health Center in Sheboygan. Harold was born July 31, 1926, in Sheboygan, to William and Lillie (Shaver) Simmelink. He attended North Cedar Grove School. On June 12, 1948, Harold married Eleanor Dimmer in Cedar Grove. Eleanor passed away January 17, 1972. On March 10, 1973, he married Ellen Steffen Huenink in Cedar Grove. Harold worked as a machinist for Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac for 37 years, retiring in 1989. Harold was a member of Grace Reformed Church and the Eagles Club Aire #270, both in Fond du Lac. He was also a member of the I.A.M. Union. Harold loved spending time at his cottage on Wilke Lake. He enjoyed listening and dancing to polka music, playing sheep head, and bowling. Harold was also an avid Packers and Brewers fan. Harold is survived by his: wife, Ellen; one step-daughter, Lisa (Robert) Welsch of Sheboygan; two step-sons, Mark (Lynn) Huenink of Appleton and Tom (Debra) Huenink of Cedar Grove; eight step-grandchildren, Gregory (Bridget) Huenink, Kristine (Brian) Altena, Kimberlyn Huenink, Kara (Creed) Darling, Kelli (Dan) Rado, Abby (Larry) Bousley, Kate (James) Schmitz, Bradley (Karen) Huenink; 13 step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Veldboom of Oostburg; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his: parents; first wife, Eleanor; one brother, Gordon (Milly) Simmelink; two sisters, Marian (George) Talitsicas and Dorothy "Dottie" (John) Rock; one brother-in-law, Elmer Veldboom. Funeral services to celebrate Harold's life will be at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg with Rev. Wayne Tripp officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 3:30 pm until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Harold's name.
