Harold "Duffy" H. Riemer, 81, of Sheboygan Falls, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Duffy was born August 8, 1929 in Plymouth, WI to Henry A. and Olive M. (Runnels) Riemer. He was a 1947 graduate from Sheboygan Falls High School and then served in the U.S. Army for 1 year during the Korean Conflict. Duffy also served 6 years in the Seabees Reserve. On February 9, 1957 he married Elizabeth "Betty" Franzen at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls, they were married for 49 years. Duffy was employed in road construction most of his life. He started as an equipment operator for Reliance Construction Company in 1961. He became a project superintendent in 1965 and worked for Reliance until 1984 when they were acquired by Payne & Dolan. He worked for P&D until 1992. He was the maintenance superintendent for the Sheboygan Transit System from 1992 until his retirement in 1997. Duffy did not slow down much in retirement. In1998 he was elected to the Sheboygan County Board, he was re-elected to the board 6 times retiring in 2010. While on the board he used his past experience by serving on the Planning & Resources Committee and the Transportation Committee. He carried his enthusiasm for aviation and model airplanes to the Transportation Committee where he was very involved with the development and expansion of the airport. Duffy also believed strongly in the local freight railway and served on the East Wisconsin Counties Railroad Consortium. Duffy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder and an usher. When St. Paul Church started construction of their new building, Duffy was instrumental in the coordination of the construction. He acted as liaison between the church and construction company and conducted daily site inspections. He was a member of the Sheboygan Falls American Legion Post 149 where he served as past Commander and helped with the annual Brat Fry fund raiser, and the Steak Fry. Duffy also served as treasurer for the Old Timers group. Duffy spent many hours at the Sheboygan County Airport watching planes, observing the growth of the airport, and marking the growth of local businesses by the planes they kept in their hangers. Duffy loved all things mechanical, especially cars. He restored a number of cars over the years; his list of favorites was very long, including a 1953 MGTD and 1973 Pierre Cardin Javelin AMX. He also enjoyed traveling and working throughout the state admiring the beauty of the countryside along the way. Duffy is survived by: two daughters, Vicky (David) Bramstedt and Suzy (Chris) Reichelt, both of Sheboygan Falls; one son Thomas (Cheryl) Riemer of Sheboygan Falls; special friend, Ann Krueger of Plymouth; 10 grandchildren, Tom Cook, Vanessa and Nate Bramstedt, Jeremy Ewald, Jennifer (Justin) Lorenz, Joshua (Andrea) Ewald, Lyza and Nick Reichelt, Jasmine and Jack Riemer; five great-grandchildren, Phoenix Ewald, Kennedy Lorenz, Taylor, Owen, and Chase Ewald; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Duffy was preceded in death by his: parents; wife Elizabeth "Betty"; one brother and sister-in-law, Clayton and Shirley; one sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Harold Bayens. A celebration of Duffy's life will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Tom Gudmundson officiating. Inurnment will be in Sheboygan Falls Cemetery with full military honors. Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 pm on Friday, September 10, 2010 at St. Paul Lutheran Church and Saturday from 10:30 am until the time of the service at the church. A memorial fund is being established in Duffy's name.
