Gwendolyn Schueffner

June 22, 1918 — December 4, 2013

Gwendolyn L. Schueffner, 95, of Sheboygan Falls and a resident of Pine Haven Residential Home, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at St. Nicholas Hospital with her family at her side following a brief illness. Gwendolyn was born on June 22, 1918, in Phillips County, KS, daughter of Albert and Ethel (Hebrew) Helmer. She was a 1936 graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School and attended Sheboygan County Normal School for 2 years. On June 1, 1940, she married Robert L. Schueffner in Sheboygan Falls. Robert passed away on November 14, 2002. Gwendolyn taught in rural schools for three years and was later employed with Claerbout & Roberts Clothing in Sheboygan Falls for 10 years and Dutch Crust Bakery for 12 years. Gwendolyn was a longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church in Sheboygan Falls. She was a member of Martha Circle and the Women's Society, where she served as secretary for 10 years. Gwendolyn also served as a 4-H Club leader. She enjoyed hand braiding, quilting, embroidery, sewing, gardening, and spending time with her family. Gwendolyn is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen Athorp of the Town of Mosel and Diane (Gary) Wilkens of Sheboygan; her son, Leslie (Karen) Schueffner of Sheboygan Falls; eleven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson; two sisters, Ruth Lammers of Hingham and Grace (Clare) Landry of Beloit; one brother, Howard (Gloria) Helmer of Colonial Heights, VA; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Helmer of Kingman, AZ. Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert, her parents, three sisters, Lettie (Andrew) Houwers, Anna Mae Helmer, and Katherine Helmer, and four brothers, Albert (Della) Helmer, Harold (Emma) Helmer, John Helmer, and Carl (La Verne) Helmer Funeral services to celebrate Gwendolyn's life will be held at 6:00 pm on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Don Drollinger and Pastor Nathan Athorp officiating. Family burial will take place Monday at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 pm until the time of the service at 6:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Gwendolyn's name for Faith United Methodist Church in Sheboygan Falls.
