Gordon Wilterdink

Gordon A. Wilterdink, 90, of Oostburg, died peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday evening, August 10, 2013 while at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Gordon was born on March 15, 1923, in the Town of Lima, son of Theodore and Hattie (Eernisse) Wilterdink. He was a 1940 graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School. Gordon served in the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific from 1943-1946. On August 16, 1946 he married Beatrice B. Caljouw in Cedar Grove. Gordon worked at Hopeman's in Hingham from 1946-80 and then was employed as a foreman with Kohler Company for 29 years until his retirement in 2009. In his retirement he enjoyed his part time work as a tour guide for the Kohler Co. Gordon was a lifelong member of Hingham Reformed Church, where he was a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Men's Quartet and choir. He was active in the Hingham Post of the American Legion, the Hingham Athletic Association, a past president of Wisconsin Classis of Reformed Church America, and the Prison Fellowship for 27 years. Gordon enjoyed gardening, traveling, and yard work. Gordon is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beatrice; his daughter, Carol (Dick) VanEss of Oostburg; his son, Bob (Kay) Wilterdink of Hingham; six grandchildren, Joel (Sandy) VanEss, Kim (Chris) Hendrikse, Todd (Heather) VanEss, Alan (Amy) Wilterdink, Deborah (Kevin) Oonk, and Jeremy (January) Wilterdink; 19 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, EJ (Betty) Caljouw of Oostburg; and three sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Gene) Charles of Sheboygan, Carolyn VerStraate of Sheboygan, and Judith (Russell) Lilyquist of Sheboygan. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Henrietta (Willis) Ebbers, Esther (Jess) Hopeman, Alma (Norman) Nyhof, and Marian (Bill Albers and Wally Kleinhans) Kleinhans, and one brother, Harvey (Jeanette) Wilterdink. Funeral services to celebrate Gordon's life will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August14, 2013 at Hingham Reformed Church with Rev. Steven J. Bakker officiating. Burial and Military Honors will take place in Hingham Cemetery in the Town of Lima. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Tuesday from 4-7 pm, and on Wednesday, at church from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:30 am. A memorial fund has been established in Gordon's name for Hingham Reformed Church and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
