Gordon Dana

Gordon "Gordy" J. Dana, 84, of Cedar Grove, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. Gordy was born on July 15, 1927, in Cedar Grove to Oscar and Alice (Walvoord) Dana. He graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-47. On June 28, 1951, Gordy married P. Charlene Hyink at the First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove. He retired as sales manager in 1989 after working for Willman Industries for 42 years. Gordy also worked at Blackwolf Run for 14 years and was a volunteer for the Cedar Grove Fire Department for 25 years. Gordy was a member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove where he served as Elder and Deacon. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Gordy also enjoyed golfing, yard work, traveling, and puzzles. Gordy is survived by his wife of 60 years, P. Charlene; one daughter, Carol (Jon) Spear of Windham, NY; two sons, Gene (Joan) Dana of Cedar Grove, Bruce (Karen) Dana of Fortworth, TX; five grandchildren, Eliza Spear, Jeffrey (Amanda) Dana, Holly (Dan) Steinkamp, Taylor (fiancé Caity Ward) Spear, Casie (Ross Duemke) Dana; two sisters, Margaret Meerdink and Eleanor Huenink, both of Cedar Grove; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gordy was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ralph Dana; two brothers-in-law, Marvin Meerdink and Delbert Huenink. Funeral services to celebrate Gordy's life will be at 11:00 am on Friday, October 21, 2011, at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove with Rev. Kent Vant Hul officiating. Private interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery with full military honors. Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 pm on Thursday, October 20, 2011, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Gordy's name for First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove and the Gathering Place (Alzheimer's Program) in Sheboygan Falls.
