Gloria Nyhuis

Gloria J. Nyhuis, 75, of Oostburg, died on Tuesday night, January 10, 2017 with her family at her side while a resident at Pine Haven Covenant Home in Sheboygan Falls. Gloria was born on July 20, 1941 in Oostburg, the daughter of the late Harmon and Evelyn (Hilbelink) Brethouwer. She graduated from Oostburg High School in 1959. On June 29, 1963 she married Robert Nyhuis in Oostburg. Gloria and her husband owned the Nyhuis American Family Insurance Agency in Oostburg for 24 years. Gloria worked for a short time as a bookkeeper for Office Supply and Printing and Security National Bank in Sheboygan. Gloria was a member at the First Presbyterian Church in Oostburg and the Forest Greater Parish First Presbyterian Church in Wabeno. Gloria participated in the programs at the Gathering Place for three years. She enjoyed flowers, crafts, making pies, fishing, music from the 50's and 60's, traveling with her husband, and caring for her grandchildren. Gloria will be missed for her loving nature and many hugs. Gloria is survived by her husband, Robert of Oostburg; two daughters, Robin (Brian) Bruggink of Oostburg and Pamela (Timothy) Acker of Cross Plains; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Megan (fiancé Matthew Thomas) and Lauren Bruggink and Alyssa and Tyler Acker; two sisters, Linda (David) Haen of Appleton and Beth Ann Goetz of Sheboygan; and one brother, Richard (Marilyn) Brethouwer of Florida. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Bruce Goetz. A celebration of her life will take place at the First Presbyterian Church in Oostburg on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Noon with the Rev. Brian Jacobson and the Rev. Dr. Jule Nyhuis officiating. Private family burial will take place at the Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Family and friends will gather at the church on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service at Noon.
