Glenn B. Walvoort, 85, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away Saturday October 3, 2015 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Glenn was born on April 16, 1930 at the family farm in rural Oostburg to Ben and Elsie (Rushton) Walvoort. He attended Beaver Creek School and was a 1947 graduate of Oostburg High School. Glenn then served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953 in Okinawa, Japan, during the Korean Conflict. On November 5, 1955 he married Nancy Gross at St. Andrew Church in Sheboygan and renewed their vows on July 14, 2015. She preceded him in death on July 17, 2015. Glenn worked for the city of Sheboygan at the waste water treatment plant until his retirement in 1992. Glenn was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sheboygan and most recently of Faith United Methodist Church in Sheboygan Falls. While at Wesley, Glenn volunteered his time to various activities. He also volunteered at the Sheboygan Food Pantry. Glenn was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Throughout their lives, Glenn and Nancy traveled through every state except Hawaii, and through Canada and Mexico. Glenn is survived by his three daughters, Mary Walvoort of Sheboygan Falls, Linda (Kenneth) Abbott of Sheboygan Falls and Jane (Dan) Sukowaty of Sheboygan Falls; five grandsons, David (Lauren) Abbott of Milwaukee, Steven Abbott, Andrew Sukowaty, Benjamin Sukowaty and Jacob Sukowaty all of Sheboygan Falls; two brothers, Robert Walvoort of Oostburg and George (Lennis) Walvoort of Tennessee; one brother-in-law, Alfred (Sue) Gross Jr. of Elkhart Lake. Glenn is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, his parents, infant twin sons, mother and father-in-law, Alfred and Charlotte Gross, sister-in-law, Lillian Walvoort, and brother-in-law, Jim (Marlene) Gross. A memorial service to celebrate Glenn's life will be on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Faith United Methodist Church in Sheboygan Falls at 11am with Rev. Susan Safford-Gaul officiating. Inurnment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in the town of Sheboygan at a later date. Relatives and friends may gather on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls from 5-8pm and again on Wednesday October 7, 2015 at the church from 10am until the time of service at 11am. A memorial fund for Pine Haven Christian Home and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice is being established in Glenn's name. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to both the staffs at Pine Haven Christian Home and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center for all the care and compassion that they gave to both of their parents.
