Glenn William Ten Haken, 91, of Hingham, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Aurora Medical Center – Grafton.
Glenn was born on April 11, 1933, to Edwin and Lydia (Dirkse) Ten Haken. He served his country in the US Army from 1954-1956 in Germany as an SP3.
Glenn was united in marriage to Mary Lynn Ten Haken on September 4, 1965, at Hingham Reformed Church. As a married couple, they traveled to all 50 states with all travel by car other than to Alaska and Hawaii.
Glenn was a truck driver for many years. Once Glenn and Mary Lynn started a family, he was employed by the Sheboygan County Highway Department in 1968 and worked there for nearly 30 years. In his retirement, he worked for Dirkse & Huibregtse Excavating LLC and enjoyed woodworking projects of all kinds.
Glenn was a member of Hingham Church and served as a deacon. Glenn enjoyed small engine repair, gardening, and loved going on Sunday afternoon rides with Mary Lynn. Glenn’s pride and joy was his family. He enjoyed following his grandchildren in every sport and extracurricular activity they were involved in. He was always there to lend a helping hand.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Mary Lynn; daughter, Deanne (Jeff) De Smidt, Kim (Scott) Arndt, Janna (Todd) Huenink; grandchildren, Justin De Smidt, Kelsi (special friend Zran Ashley) De Smidt, Kaden, Reese, and Logan Arndt, Erin (Michael) O’Donnell, Carter (Megan) Huenink; great-grandchildren, Micky and Cillian O’Donnell, Weston Huenink, and another great-grandson on the way. He is further survived by his sister, Ellen Preder; brother-in-law, Ron (Dottie) Ten Haken; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jon Glenn; siblings, Norman Ten Haken, Virginia (Calvin) Awe; sisters-in-law, Elaine and Beverley Ten Haken; and brother-in-law, Fritz Preder.
A memorial service to celebrate Glenn’s life will be held at Hingham Church on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 12:00pm. Burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may greet the family at church on Thursday from 10:00am until the time of service.
Memorials are appreciated in Glenn’s name to Hingham Church.
