On May 10, 2021 Gladys M. Huibregtse Wisse went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 101.
Gladys was born October 26, 1919 in Plymouth, the daughter of Jacob John and Susanna (nee Koskamp) Oosterhouse. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1937, and went on to study at the Sheboygan County Normal Teacher College, where she graduated from in 1939. On January 24, 1942 she was united in marriage with Robert C. Huibregtse in Plymouth. Robert preceded Gladys in death in 1979. On October 8, 1983 she was united in marriage with Joseph Wisse in Cedar Grove, and her family grew with the addition of Joseph’s family. He preceded her in death in 2012.
She taught at Webster School in Cascade and Grant School in Plymouth before returning to home to raise a family and support her husband, Rob, with his electrical business. After their family with was grown, Gladys worked at the H.C. Prange store in Sheboygan and then for Dr. Homer Duenk in his dental practice until her retirement.
Gladys was a longtime member of Calvary OPC in Cedar Grove, where she was active with the Calvary Bible League. She also was a member of the Cedar Grove Senior Citizens, and enjoyed traveling, playing cards, bowling, meeting friends for coffee or lunch, knitting and reading, but her greatest joy was in her artistic painting.
Gladys is survived by her children: Roy (Linda) Huibregtse of Cedar Grove, Ruth Ann (Larry) Wieberdink of Cedar Grove and Mary (Jeffrey) Pippert of Sheboygan. She is further survived by 8 grandchildren: Debbie (Ward) Meinen, Sarah Huibregtse, Mike (Amy) Huibregtse, Karri (Gary) Konitzer, Rachel Tackes, Rob (Tamra) Wieberdink, Jon Pippert and Jared Pippert; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Ronald Huibregtse, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is further survived by Joe’s family including Joanne (Norman) De Ruyter, Judy (Bruce) Mentink, Joy (Dick Moths) Dempsey, daughter-in-law Anna Ruth Wisse, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Robert Huibregtse and Joseph Wisse, sister Hazel (Lester) Dulmes, infant sister Carol Sue Oosterhouis, brothers and sisters-in-laws: Erwin “Happy) and Margaret Huibregtse, Warren and Margarite Neerhof, Winson and Helen Graven, Carl and Ethel DuMez, Sue Huibregtse, step-son Jerry Wisse and step-grandson Jason Mentink.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Calvary OPC, 136 W. Union Ave in Cedar Grove. The family will receive visitors at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 – 11:00AM. Gladys will be laid to rest beside Robert at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Calvary OPC.
