Gerald F. "Gerry" Willadsen, 92, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Wednesday evening, July 10, 2013, at Sheboygan Progressive Care Center. Gerry was born on June 11, 1921, in Big Stone, Minnesota, son of the late Chris N. and Frances (Whitman) Willadsen. He graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1939. Gerry entered the U.S. Army and served at Corregidor in the Philippines where he was captured by the Japanese. He spent 42 months as a prisoner of war in the Philippines and later in Japan. He was twice injured and received two Purple Hearts. After the war, he returned to Sheboygan Falls where he met and married Lucille "Penny" Romlund on April 13, 1946. In 1948, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served until 1968. His service included participation in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Back in Sheboygan Falls he worked for the post office as a letter carrier until he retired. Gerry enjoyed a number of outdoor activities which included golf, softball, hunting, and fishing. He was a long-time member of Faith United Methodist Church in Sheboygan Falls. Gerry is survived by his children, Robert (Ellen) Willadsen of Sheboygan, Bonnie Anne Willadsen of Charleston, SC, and Jo Frances Willadsen of Portage. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as an aunt, Ruth Uhrhammer, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Gerry was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers, Paul (Ruth) and Donald (Jean) Willadsen, one sister, Joyce (Melvin) Sass, one nephew, Rick, a granddaughter, Amber Rose Stafford, and numerous other relatives. Funeral services to celebrate Gerry's life will be held at 11 am on Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Susan Safford-Gaul officiating. Burial will take place in Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends will gather at the funeral home on Monday from 9 am until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established in Gerry's name for Faith United Methodist Church.
