Genevieve A. Huibregtse, 86, of Oostburg, passed away on Wednesday evening, February 16, 2011 at Countryside Manor where she had resided for the past four years. Genevieve was born on January 19, 1925 in Oostburg, the daughter of the late Elmer and Jennie (Roerdink) Lammers. She was a 1943 graduate of Oostburg High School. On December 20, 1946 she married Ronald Huibregtse in Oostburg. Ronald preceded her in death on February 5, 2008. Genevieve, along with her husband, Ron, was owner and co-editor of the Lakeshore Weekly for 17 years until her retirement in 1983. Previously she and her husband owned Huibregtse Hardware Store in Adell. Genevieve was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg and formerly the First Presbyterian Church where she was active in Bible studies and the Ladies Circle. She was also a member of Gideons Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She and Ron were New Tribes Mission volunteers. Genevieve enjoyed gardening, flowers, painting and crafts, traveling, baking, cake decorating, watching sunsets and spending time with her family. Genevieve is survived by two daughters, Jane (Larry) Shaver of Hingham and Julie (Greg) Radke of Washburn; three sons, Don (Barb) Huibregtse of Stevens Point, Mike (Terri) Huibregtse of Sheboygan and Jeff (Andrea) Huibregtse of Kohler; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Joel) Sohre, Joshua (Jun) Shaver, Valerie Huibregtse, Anna and Allison Radke; five great-grandchildren, Kade Anderson, John and Jeremy Shaver, Kaelyn and Kendall Sohre; one sister LaVerne Wieberdink of Oostburg and two step-grandsons Eric Anderson and Joe Ferencz. Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald, her parents, a step-grandson Brian Anderson, a sister Eileen (Lloyd) Van der Jagt and a brother-in-law Ernie Wieberdink. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Burial will take place in Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service.
