Gary Markus

Gary W. Markus, 57, of Hingham, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, January 28, 2016. Gary was born on September 1, 1958 in Sheboygan, the son of William R. and Shirley (Gannigan) Markus. He graduated from Oostburg High School in 1977. Gary married Tamala Huibregtse on July 18, 1980 in Oostburg. He worked at the Belgium Foundry for 37 years until the foundry closed in 2015. Gary attended the First Presbyterian Church in Oostburg. He also served as coach for various soccer teams, including the Oostburg High School Girls Soccer Team for 10 years. Gary also enjoyed hunting, fishing and the Green Bay Packers. He is survived by his wife, Tamala; his two sons, Grant (Terri) Markus of Hingham and Scot (Pietje) Markus of Plymouth; five grandchildren, Carlie and Ella Markus and Chase, Madelyn, and Evelyn Markus; his mother, Shirley (Del) Dassow of Sheboygan Falls; three sisters, Shirl (James) Breunig of Sheboygan Falls, Peggy (Steven) Gabrielse and Donna (Phil) Meerdink, both of Oostburg; one brother, Billy Markus of Sheboygan Falls; his parents-in-law, Charles and Joan Huibregtse of Oostburg; one sister-in-law, Jodi (Jeff) Barthels of Sheboygan Falls; one brother-in-law, David (Gina) Huibregtse of Oostburg; nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his father, William R. Markus; and a grandson, Carson Markus. A funeral to celebrate Gary's life will take place at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 5 pm with Rev. Brian Jacobson officiating. Burial will take place at the Hingham Cemetery in the Town of Lima. Family and friends will gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday from 1 pm until the time of the service at 5 pm.
