Gary L. Felde, 74, of Oostburg, died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, with his wife at his side. Gary was born December 23, 1937, in Sheboygan to Christ and Leota (Keenlyne) Felde. He was a 1956 graduate of Sheboygan Central High School. Gary attended Lakeland College where he played football, prior to serving three years in the U.S. Air Force. In the Air Force, he was stationed in Alaska, where he developed his love of the outdoors. After his honorable discharge, he worked at the Vollrath Co. and played ball for the Sheboygan Redwings. He later worked for Lakeside Manufacturing and Gassert Oil Company, which he eventually owned and operated along with several Union 76 stations. Following, he worked at Borden Chemical, Diamond Printing and First Realty; retiring in 2001. On April 1, 1989, he married Connie Veldboom at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan and together they owned and operated The Boondocks Tavern in Oostburg. Gary loved spending time with his family and his dogs. He had a variety of interests including softball, bowling, volleyball, hunting, sporting clays, and gardening. Gary was an avid sports fan; the Packers, Brewers and Badgers were among his favorites. He enjoyed telling jokes and cherished his companionship with both his old and new buddies. In his early years, he enjoyed camping; supporting the Girl Scouts of America and he was a long-time leader of the Boy Scouts of America. He continued his great love of the outdoors, especially ATV riding on his land in western Wisconsin. Gary is survived by his wife, Connie; three daughters, Kristin (Roger) Lutz of Portland, OR, Jessica Katzmarek and Tracy (Grant) Johnson, both of Houston, TX; one son, Erik (Marie) Felde of Spicewood, TX; seven grandchildren, Aimee and Jonah Lutz, Kyle Katzmarek, Reagan and Sydney Johnson, Mackenzie and Emma Felde; one sister, Dianne (Kenneth) Powell of New Bern, NC; his former wife and children's mother, Jackie Felde of Sheboygan; mother-in-law, Lucille Veldboom of Oostburg; three brothers-in-law, Larry (Barb) Veldboom of Hingham, Phillip (Pam) Veldboom of Howards Grove, Dennis (Virginia) Veldboom of Gibbsville; cherished close friends and patrons, as well as his nieces, nephews and other loved relatives. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Olivia Lutz; one nephew, Dirk Allan Kaboord; father-in-law, Elmer Veldboom; one brother-in-law, Edward Veldboom, and one niece, Jamie Veldboom. Memorial services to celebrate Gary's life will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg with Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Following the service, friends and relatives are invited to celebrate Gary's life at the Sauk Trail Conservation Club in Cedar Grove. Packers, Brewers and Badgers attire is welcome. Gary's family is forever grateful to the friends, family and Boondocks patrons who have supported us throughout his courageous battle with cancer.
