Frederick J. Holtz, 94, of South 11th Street, Oostburg, died peacefully at his home on Saturday afternoon, April 14, 2012. Fred was born on February 24, 1918 in Milwaukee, son of Henry C. and Betty (Naeser) Holtz. He graduated from Milwaukee North Division High School in 1936 and served in the US Navy in 1945. Fred was a printer, first working for his father at H. C. Holtz Printing Co., and then starting the Milwaukee Lithographing Co., which he operated until his sons assumed its ownership and operation in 1980. Fred married Sylvia Meyer on August 28, 1940 in Milwaukee. She preceded him in death on December 9, 1990. On July 6, 1996 Fred married Dorothy (Schenkel) Grisanti in Milwaukee. Fred was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Random Lake and formerly Incarnation Lutheran Church in Milwaukee and Zion United Methodist Church in Batavia. He was past president of the Adell and Amsterdam Lions Clubs, served as past district governor for the Lions Club, and received the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was instrumental in the formation of the Zion Housing Project and Random Lake Food Pantry. He was a member of the Milwaukee Kiwanis Club, Jaycees, SCIO, and was a leader for the Milwaukee County 4-H program. Fred served on the Town of Sherman Board as Chairman, Sheboygan County Sherriff Deputy, and the Silver Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. He served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention to nominate General Dwight Eisenhower as a presidential candidate. Fred enjoyed fishing, designing and making jewelry, and traveling. For many years he sold dart boards and dolls at the Seven Mile Fair in Kenosha. Fred is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Oostburg; one daughter, Diana (Daniel) Bartels of Dousman; two sons, Leighton (Krista) Holtz of Adell and David (Jennifer) Holtz of Fredonia; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Glen (Marilyn) Holtz of Wauwatosa; three step daughters, Linda (Robert II) Logemann of New Holstein, Joanne (Anthony) Aveni of Wauwatosa, and Lori (Scott) Maikowski of Milwaukee; two step sons, Steve Grisanti of Milwaukee and David (Judy) Grisanti of Franksville; three step grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Vicki (friend Owen) Timm of Watertown, SD. Fred was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia; and one brother, Richard (Hazel) Holtz. A funeral to celebrate Fred's life will take place at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 2 pm with the Rev. Ned Dorau officiating. Private family entombment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield on Thursday. Friends and family may gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Wednesday from 1-2 pm.
