Fred H. Nyhof, 80, of 215 North 15th Street, Oostburg died at his home early on Wednesday morning, November 24, 2010. Fred was born in Ozone Park, NY on March 1, 1930, the son of the late John William and Alice (Duenk) Nyhof. Fred graduated from Oostburg High School in 1947. On August 20, 1952 he was married to Irene Lubbers in Gibbsville by the bride's father, Rev. R. C. Lubbers. Fred was a salesman for Mirro Aluminum and Reynolds Aluminum for many years prior to his retirement in 1992. Fred was a member of the First Reformed Church in Oostburg where he served as an usher, the building committee, as well as various other committees. He was a former volunteer fireman with the Oostburg Fire Dept, Village Constable, and a charter member of the Pine Beach Boat Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, cars, playing cards, and the Green Bay Packers. Fred enjoyed his work and spending winters in Arizona for over 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Irene; one daughter, Sandy (Mike) Soerens of Oostburg; one son, Dan (Vicki) Nyhof of Oostburg; five grandchildren, Terri (Grant) Markus, Tracy (Justin) VanEss, Dawn (Phoenix) Ramirez, Shannon (Amanda) Nyhof and Joel Nyhof; six great grandchildren, Carlie Markus, Aiden and Aubrey VanEss, MacKenzie, Kyia, Taeya Ramirez; one brother, Paul (Marie) Nyhof of Cedar Grove; and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Lubbers of Sheboygan and Wayne (Donna) Lubbers of Florida. Fred was preceded in death by a great grandson, Carson Markus; an infant sister, and two brothers, Norman (Alma) and Gerald (Edna) Nyhof. Funeral services will be held at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 10:30 am with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in the Town of Wilson. Friends may greet the family on Friday, November 26, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg from 4-8 pm, and on Saturday, at church from 9:30 until the time of the service.
