Francis R. Salm, 74, of 8526 County Line Rd., Cleveland, died Wednesday night, January 7, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh with his family at his side. He was born September 1, 1934 in St. Nazianz, the Town of Eaton, Manitowoc Co., the son of the late Nicholas and Hildegarde (Schuler) Salm. Francis attended St. Wendel Grade School. On September 17, 1955 he married Nancy Den Boer in Cleveland. He was a lifelong dairy farmer in the Town of Mosel. Francis worked at Braun Electric for ten years from 1987-1997, and for the Grotegut Farms in Newton for 11 years until July of 2008. He was an active founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton where he served as usher, Sacristan, Communion distributor and served on the building committee. He was a member of NFO and Lakeshore Two Cylinder Club. He served as a Supervisor for the Town of Centerville. Francis enjoyed John Deere tractors, Lincoln cars, and playing Sheepshead. He was a sports enthusiast and especially enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame. Francis was proud of his heritage and enjoyed time he could spend with his immediate and extended family. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; four daughters, Luann (Keith) Sippel of Larson, Annette Hahn of Cleveland, Karen (Greg) Mahlendorf of Sheboygan, MaryJo (Steve) Gabsch of Howards Grove; seven sons, Francis Jr., Nicholas, Dennis (friend Mary), all of Sheboygan, Randall (Doris) of Springfield, VA, Peter (Jodey) of Cleveland, John of Sheboygan, and James (Jodi) Salm of Cleveland; 21 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; five sisters, Gertrude Florian, Agnes Wagner, Mabel Henckel, Mary Lou (Richard) Sixel, all of Sheboygan, Carol (Elroy) Jaeger of Cleveland; one brother, Joe (Marlys) Salm of Newton; three sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Mrs. Donald) Salm of Cleveland, Mary Ann (Mrs. Andrew) Salm of Newton, and Carol (Mrs. Eugene) Salm of Kiel. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Emily and Ben Salm, two sisters, Ruth Gill, Marie (Bernie) Langdon, six brothers, Arthur, Andrew, Roman (Coletta), Eugene, Donald, and an infant brother, Robert Salm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. Burial will take place at St. Wendel Catholic Cemetery in the Village of Cleveland. Friends may greet the family at the church on Friday, January 9, 2009 from 3-8 pm and on Saturday from 9 am until the time of services.
