Frances Jane VanDriest, 90, of Oostburg, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Pine Haven Christian Homes in Sheboygan Falls. Frances was born on January 4, 1927 in Sheboygan to William and Jennie (Otte) Hartman. She was a 1945 graduate of Oostburg High School. On March 18, 1948, she married Donald E. VanDriest in Oostburg. Donald preceded Frances in death on July 8, 1982. Frances was a loving mother and dedicated homemaker in raising her five children. Frances was a lifelong member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg. She was an active member of the Eunice Society, Martha Society, Lakeview Homemakers Club, Oostburg Christian School Circle, and Sheboygan County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed cooking, baking, having coffee with her friends, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Frances is survived by two daughters, Jane Hilbelink of Oostburg, and Ann (Kevin) Phalin of Sheboygan; three sons, Larry (fiancé Ruth Voskuil) VanDriest of Sheboygan, Bruce (girlfriend Daun Delo) VanDriest of Oostburg, and Mike VanDriest of Oostburg; nine grandchildren, Mike (fiancé Anna Walcott and her 3 children) Hilbelink, Jerry Hilbelink, Laurie (Andy) Pilon, Meghan Kattner, Nick Phalin, Jessica (fiancé James Paige) Phalin, Kelsey Phalin, Donald VanDriest and Briana VanDriest; two great grandchildren; three brothers, John Hartman of California, William Jr (Marilyn) Hartman of Pella, IA, James (Shirley) Hartman of Oostburg; and other nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Donald VanDriest; her son-in-law Jeffrey Hilbelink; two sisters, Marion (Calvin) Verhulst, and Betsy (Jerry) Jenne; and two sisters-in-law, Carla Hartman, and Elvira (Ernest) Navis. A funeral service to celebrate Frances' life will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 10 am at the First Christian Reformed Church of Oostburg with Rev Drew Zylstra officiating. Burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery in the Town of Lima. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Wenig Funeral Home of Oostburg and again on Friday, at church, from 9 am until the time of service at 10 am.
