Evelyn J. Harmelink, 99, formerly of Oostburg, passed away on Wednesday morning, May 4, 2011 at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls where she had resided for the past nine years. Evelyn was born on June 19, 1911 in the Town of Lima, daughter of Lewis and Mary (Ruselink) Faas. She attended Hillcrest Grade School and Oostburg High School. In 1930 she graduated from Sheboygan Business College. On October 30, 1934 she married Earl Harmelink in the Town of Lima. Earl preceded her in death on March 30, 2009 following 74 years of marriage. Evelyn did secretarial work in Oostburg and Sheboygan. She worked for Jake Verhelst and Ike Van Driest, doing office work for their excavating business. Evelyn and Earl owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Lima for many years. Evelyn was a lifelong member of Gibbsville Reformed Church where she was active in the Bethany Circle. She was a member of the Lima Center Homemaker Club and the Sheboygan County Farm Bureau. Evelyn enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, reading, playing cards, gardening, cooking, entertaining and hosting guests. She and Earl enjoyed traveling to many areas in the US after their retirement. Evelyn was a Phoenix survivor descendant. Evelyn is survived by three daughters, Mary Lou (Don) DuMez of Oostburg, Darlene (Ron) Navis of Sheboygan and Bonnie (Stan) Ramaker of Fond du Lac; one son, Glenn (Luann) Harmelink of Marshalltown, IA; nine grandchildren, Julie (Phil) Meyer, Debra DuMez, John (Julie) DuMez, Jeff (Jen) DuMez, Michael Navis, Nicole Navis, Will (Amy) Navis, Rebecca (Ryan) O'Neil, Chad (Nicole) Ramaker; 15 great-grandchildren, Cassondra and Joe Meyer, Leah, Lucas and Jon Bischoff, Aaron, Kayla and Levi DuMez, Lauren, Ben and Evelyn DuMez, Amy Ramaker and Griffin Ramaker, and Willamina and Vivian O'Neil. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, two grandchildren, Heidi and Terrill Harmelink; one sister, Norma Faas; and one step-brother, Caroll (Cora) Walford. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, May 9, 2011 at the Gibbsville Reformed Church with the Rev. John Ornee officiating. A family service will be held at 10:15 am in the choir room. Burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg from 4-7 pm, and on Monday, from 9:30 am until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established in Evelyn's name for the Gibbsville Reformed Church, Rehabilitation Center of Sheboygan (RCS), and the Children's Leukemia Foundation.
