Evangeline (Gabrielse-TenHaken) Fikkert, 90 of Oostburg died on Tuesday evening, October 6, 2015 at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls. Van was born on November 23, 1924 in the Town of Sheboygan, the daughter of Jacob and Dina (VandeGutche) Gabrielse. She graduated from Sheboygan Christian Grade School and Sheboygan Central High School in 1943. She later returned to school earning her nursing degree from Lakeshore Technical Institute in 1969. On June 22, 1949 she married LeRoy E. TenHaken in Sheboygan. LeRoy preceded her in death on June 6, 2001. On June 15, 2002 she married Rev. Henry Fikkert in Oostburg. Henry preceded her in death on November 18, 2004. Van was a nurse at the Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center for 24 years before her retirement in 1993. Van was a member of Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg where she was Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday school and catechism and was a member of the Rebekah Society. She was a member of the Oostburg Christian School Circle and the Pine Haven Women Auxiliary. Van collected medical supplies and equipment for medical mission projects in Africa for over 30 years. Van is survived by her daughter, Sandra (George) Wright of Oostburg, two grandsons, Nathan (Angie) Wright and David Wright; one step daughter, Marcia (Rev. Allen) VanderPol of Cape Coral, Florida; two step sons, Stephen (Patricia) Fikkert of Mt. Vernon, WA and Brian (Jill) Fikkert of Chattanooga, TN; ten step grandchildren; Alison (Nicolas) Farelly, James (Esther) and Seth (Lauren) Fikkert, Jessica, Joshua, and Anna Fikkert, Luke, Julia, Joel and Joshua VanderPol; two great grandchildren, Rhiannon and Elijah; numerous step-great grandchildren; one sister, Edith (Preston) DeHammer of Appleton; two sisters-in-law, Ella Gabrielse of WA and Patricia Gabrielse of MI. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Van was preceded in death by her parents, 1st and 2nd husbands, a granddaughter, Jessica Wright; one sister, Gertrude (Lloyd) Heinen; three brothers, John, George (Dorothy), and Edwin Gabrielse, one sister-in-law, Beatrice Gabrielse; one niece, Kim Kleinschmidt and a nephew, Kevin Gabrielse. A funeral to celebrate Van's life will be held at Bethel OPC in Oostburg on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 10:30 am with the Rev. John Tinsley officiating. Burial will take place at Hartman Cemetery in the Town of Wilson.
