Ethel Wynveen

Ethel R. Wynveen, 96, of Oostburg, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at Cedar Grove Gardens where she had resided for the past year. Ethel was born on September 8, 1918, in the Town of Lima, daughter of William and Annie (Dulmes) Kooman. She attended Horace Mann School in the Town of Lima. On October 20, 1939, she married Bernard J. Wynveen in the Town of Lima. Bernard passed away on December 17, 1998. Ethel was a custodian for Oostburg Public School for 20 years until her retirement in 1983. Ethel was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg, where she was active in the Eernisse Circle and Young at Heart. She was a member of the Oostburg Senior Citizens and volunteered at Kettle Moraine in the Alethea Prison Fellowship for over 20 years. Ethel enjoyed crossword puzzles, Scrabble, cooking, baking, gardening, reading, and spending time with her family. Ethel is survived by her daughter, Karen (Jeffrey) Lundy of West Bend; her two sons, Elwood (Kathy) Wynveen of Sheboygan Falls and Glenn (Beth) Wynveen of Oostburg; 13 grandchildren, Joan (Ron) Dow, Carol (Bruce) Williams, Linda Lundy, Paul (fiancé Lisa Piper) Lundy, Luanne (Scott) Rady, Suanne (Dean) Ebert, Gail (John) Sowin, Jennifer (Cam) Cannavo, Peter (April) Wynveen, Michael (Shannon) Wynveen, Jamie Wynveen, Benjamin (Stacie) Wynveen and Jonathan Wynveen; 30 great-grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Bernard, and her parents. A funeral service to celebrate Ethel's life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg with Revs. Brian Taylor and Rick Boon officiating. Burial will take place at Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from Noon until the time of the service at 2 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Ethel's name for Campus Life and the Prison Fellowship.
