Ethel Mentink

Ethel Wilma (DeBruine) Mentink, 92, of Cedar Grove, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Pine Haven Christian Home Residential in Sheboygan Falls. She was born in Ozaukee County on the homestead on February 15, 1921, the daughter of the late John and Anne (Zeeveld) De Bruine. On March 15, 1945 Ethel married Robert Mentink in Cedar Grove. They were married 63 years before he preceded her in death on October 18, 2008. Ethel worked in Food Service for the Cedar Grove/Belgium School district for 28 years until her retirement in 1988. Ethel was a member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove where she was active in the ladies aide. She was also part of the Women's Legion Auxillary. Ethel enjoyed quilting and doing needlework but most of all she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Ethel is survived by her 3 sons; Dale (Jane) Mentink, Richard (Mary) Mentink and Mark (Pam) Mentink all of Cedar Grove; 10 grandchildren; Paul Mentink, Nicole (Carl) Velzke, Ryan Mentink, Lindsey Mentink, Erich Mentink, Mindy (Matt) Wilcox, Melissa (Corey) Aponte, Melanie Mentink, Michelle (Wes) Parks and Mallory Mentink; 9 great-grandchildren; Grace, Jamison and Amelia Velzke, Ellie, Kate and Megan Wilcox, Ethan, Nolan and Gavin Aponte. She is further survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, an infant daughter and her 3 sisters; Althea (Lester) Meerdink, Arlene (Winfred) Meerdink and Helen (Lloyd) Janisse. Funeral Services to celebrate Ethel's life will be held at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 1:00pm with Rev. Kent Vant Hul officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 11:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm. A memorial fund has been established for First Reformed Church and Pine Haven Christian Home in Ethel's name.
