Ervin W. Navis, 99, formerly of Hingham, died on Sunday afternoon May 1, 2011 at Pine Haven Christian Home where he had resided for the past 17 years. Ervin was born on August 30, 1911, in the Town of Lima, the son of the late John and Mary (Ramaker) Navis. He attended Adell Grade School. On November 26, 1935, he married Dorothy TenPas in Cedar Grove. Dorothy preceded Ervin in death on March 8, 1997. Ervin worked in the garden department at the Kohler Co. from 1953 until his retirement in 1976. Previously he had worked for the Adell Canning Co. from 1927-53. Ervin was a lifelong member at the Hingham Reformed Church and the Men's Brotherhood. He served as sexton for the Hingham Cemetery Assoc. for many years. Ervin enjoyed yardwork and fix-it projects. Ervin is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Daniel) Neerhof of Hingham; a son, Wayne (Alice) Navis of Oostburg; seven grandchildren, Terri (Bryan) Schultz, Todd (Lisa) Neerhof, Cindy (Perry) Hoitink, Tammy (Bill) Peiffer, Rick (Renee') Navis, Corey (April) Navis, David (Linda) Navis; 14 great grandchildren; step grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Rauwerdink of Hingham; and a brother-in-law, Clayton (Pat) TenPas of Plymouth. Ervin would have become a great great grandpa in September. Ervin was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Carol and Linda Navis; a great grandaughter, Riley Peiffer; two brothers, Lester (Bernice) Navis and Alvin (Anne) Navis; a sister-in-law, Audrey (Ralph) Plass; and a brother-in-law, Harold Rauwerdink. Funeral services will be held at the Hingham Reformed Church on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at 5 pm with the Rev. Steven Bakker officiating. A family service will precede at 4:45 pm in the choir room. Burial will follow at the Hingham Cemetery. Friends may greet the family at the Hingham Reformed Church on Thursday from 3:30 pm until the time of the service at 5 pm.
