Erna TenHaken

Erna TenHaken, 95, of Oostburg passed away on January 23, 2015 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. Erna was born on January 26, 1919 in the town of Holland to John and Katherine (Huenink) VanderLaan. She graduated from Wisconsin Memorial Academy in 1936 and attended vocational school. She worked for Pantzer Lumber Company in Oostburg for 25 years then the Gus Holman Company for 7 years until her retirement in 1984. Erna married Herbert TenHaken on May 18, 1956. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1979. Erna was a member of Bethel OPC in Oostburg where she was active with the Senior Saints and the Rebekah Society. Erna is survived by one step-son-in-law, Ralph Rusch of Oostburg; one step-daughter-in-law, Evangeline Fikkert of Oostburg; three step-grandchildren, Sandra (George) Wright, Susan (Scott) Rudi and Craig Rusch; two step great-grandchildren, Nathan (Angie) Wright and David Wright; three step great-great grandchildren; two nephews and a niece, Keith Heuver , Daniel (Nancy) Heuver and Julaine (Lawrence) Bayer; her special caretaker, Judith DuMez. Erna will be remembered as "Grandma Erna" to the DuMez and Theune families. Erna is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Erna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herbert, one step daughter, Barbara Rusch, step son, Leroy TenHaken, one step great-granddaughter, a niece, Everdeen Heuver, her sister Bernice Heuver and a special caretaker, David DuMez. A funeral service to celebrate Erna's life will be on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 6:30pm at Bethel OPC in Oostburg with Rev. John Tinsley officiating. Burial will be in Hartman Cemetery in the town of Wilson. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the church on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from 4:30pm until the time of service at 6:30pm. A memorial fund has been established in Erna's name for Bethel OPC.
