Erna Bernice

Erna Schwartz, 93, a resident of Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Erna was born on April 12, 1917 in the Town of Lyndon, the daughter of the late John and Emma (Federwisch) Schwartz. In 1919 her family moved to a farm on Bluebird Lane in Sheboygan Falls where she resided until 2006. She was confirmed in 1930 at St. Paul Parochial School and graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1935. During the depression Erna worked at the Globe Company in Sheboygan until it disbanded in 1938. The same year, she began work at the Vollrath Company serving as the stenographic department supervisor and later the confidential secretary to the executive team until her retirement in 1979. Noteworthy, was her role as the executive secretary to the late Wisconsin Governor Walter J. Kohler Jr. during his three terms in office. Erna will be remembered for her love of country living, as a Vollrath Quarter Century Club member, and member of the St. Paul Prayer Chain. Erna is survived by cousins and friends. She is remembered by those she considered "family" which include Raymond and Shirley Ottman, their children Rick (Kelly) and Roy (Robbin), and grandchildren; Zac, Kailee, Brienz, Karalin, Veronika, Jim and Nancy Ottman and Harold and Vera Ottman. Erna was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Adeline and Vera, and her brother Edwin. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls with the Rev. Mark Janzen officiating. Burial will take place in Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established in Erna's name for St Paul Lutheran Church Sunday School Program and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
