Elwood J. TenHaken, 75, of 924 South Main Street, Cedar Grove died Friday evening, September 10, 2010, at the Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. Elwood was born on June 26, 1935 in the Town of Holland, the son of the late Clarence and Lois (Obbink) TenHaken. Elwood graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1953. He served in the US Army from 1954-56. On October 6, 1956, he married Jane Neerhof in Cedar Grove. Jane preceded Elwood in death on January 7, 2010. Elwood was co-owner of Hilbelink-TenHaken Carpentry for over 20 years before his retirement in 1991. He also worked for Cedar Grove Construction Co. and Navis Custom Builders in Cedar Grove. Elwood was a member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove where he served as deacon, elder, trustee, usher, Sunday school teacher, and member of the Men's Society. He was an active volunteer with the Holland Guild and past member of Kiwanis. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, bowling, playing pool, farming, traveling and gardening. He was an avid fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks and the Green Bay Packers. Spending time with his grandchildren was very special to him. Elwood is survived by one daughter, Beth (Lance) Gaedtke of Manitowoc; two sons, Scott (Mary) TenHaken and Stuart (Linda) TenHaken, both of Cedar Grove; five grandchildren, Sarabeth and Matthew Gaedtke, Angela (Juan) Serrano, Bradley and Robert Lessor; one brother, Gary (Pam) TenHaken of Cedar Grove; two brothers-in-law, James Eckwielen of Oostburg and LaMont (Helen) Bruggink of Cedar Grove. Elwood was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; a sister, Karen Bruggink; a grandson, Patrick Sprosty; and a sister-in-law, Mary Eckwielen. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Calvary OPC in Cedar Grove with the Rev. Ronald Beabout officiating. A family service will precede at 9:45 am in the choir room. Burial will follow at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Tuesday from 4-7 pm, and on Wednesday, at church, from 9 am until the time of the service.
