Elvira Sandee

July 2, 1923 — June 4, 2010

Elvira M. Sandee, 86, of Waupun, went to be with Jesus on Friday, June 4, 2010. She had been a resident of Prairie Ridge Assisted Living since September 2007. Elvira was born July 2, 1923 in the Town of Lima, WI to Ben and Lila (TenDolle) TenHaken. On May 29, 1944 she married LeRoy Sandee at the Gibbsville Reformed Church. She was a 1940 graduate of Oostburg High School and the Sheboygan County Normal School in 1942. In 1973 she graduated from UW-Whitewater. She was an elementary school teacher until her retirement in 1976. Elvira's husband LeRoy was an ordained minister in the Reformed Church of America. Elvira and LeRoy served congregations for 35 years in Monroe, SD; Alton, IA; Alto and Clinton, WI; Abbotsford, BC, Canada; and Kings, IL. Elvira was a member of the First Reformed Church in Oostburg. From 1983-89 she was a consultant for Reformed Church Women. She enjoyed sharing her faith both publicly and personally in her own and other congregations. She loved everything about being a minister's wife. Elvira enjoyed flower gardening and crafts. She collected Precious Moments, Delft pottery, tea cups, pine cones, and shells. She also loved camping and traveling. Elvira is survived by: one daughter, Judy (Nick) Kuzulka; three sons, Robert (Sherry) of Beloit, Timothy (Marjorie) of Madison, and Mark (Debbie) Sandee of Gaithersburg, MD; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Steve) Bingen, Michael (Sandra) Kuzulka, Sara (Doug) Koerner, Rebecca, Kate, Rachel, and T. Benjamin (Elizabeth Jesse), and Matthew (fiancé Shannon) Sandee, and Amanda (Carlos) Cabrera; seven great grandchildren, Jillian Bingen, Katie, Emmie, Alyssa Kuzulka, Ava and Jacob Koerner, and Jordan Butler; one sister, Lois (Wayne) Dulmes of Oostburg; two sisters-in-law, Delores Bruggink and Marilyn Sandee both of Cedar Grove; one brother-in-law, Wayne (Carol) Sandee of Mankato, MN; and two foster children, Jeffrey Loney and Pam (Dave) Stevens; other relatives and friends. Elvira was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rev. LeRoy Sandee, one brother Ervin (Pearl) TenHaken, and one brother-in-law Glenn Beernink. A celebration of Elvira's life will take place at the funeral service to be held at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Wayne DeVrou officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Elvira's name for the International Myeloma Foundation. Elvira's family would like to give special thanks to the First Reformed Church family, the staff at Prairie Ridge Assisted Living and The Waupun Christian Home and Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care and compassion.
