Ellis C. Voskuil, 90, of Menomonee Falls and formerly of Oostburg, passed away on Thursday morning, March 29, 2012 at his home in Menomonee Falls. Ellis was born on May 31, 1921 in the Town of Holland, son of Christian and Edna (Meengs) Voskuil. He was a 1938 graduate of Oostburg High School. Ellis served in the US Navy in WW II and was a survivor of many conflicts including D Day, Sicily, Normandy, and Italy. Ellis was the recipient of four battle stars. On February 8, 1946 he married Blanche TeRonde in Oostburg. Following their marriage they owned and operated the Knotty Pine Restaurant in Oostburg for 10 years until 1956. Ellis then became partner in Schreurs and Voskuil Drywall, later known as Voskuil Drywall, for 23 years until his retirement in 1983. Ellis was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his home on Lake Michigan, his clubhouse in the woods, and wintering in Florida. Ellis liked to golf and always looked forward to the "Voskuil Open" each year. Ellis had a genuine love for all people, but had a special love for children. He shared his time and resources with them generously. Ellis not only provided much entertainment for them, but also treasured the time that he had with them to teach about nature and lessons about life. Ellis is survived by his wife of 66 years, Blanche; two daughters, Mary (Gary) Tenpas of Menomonee Falls and Cindy Voskuil of Wauwatosa; one son, Ben Voskuil of Sheboygan; two grandchildren, Lisa (Tom) Scaffidi and Sara (Michael) Poos; five great-grandchildren, Catherine, Joseph, and Sophia Scaffidi and Elise and Claire Poos. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vonley (Garlie) Voskuil and Clayton (Dorothy) Voskuil; one sister, Grace (Frederick) Zurheide. A memorial service to celebrate Ellis' life will be held at Noon on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service at Noon. A memorial fund has been established in Ellis' name for the Salvation Army of Sheboygan.
