Ellen Simmelink

Ellen E. Simmelink, 88, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016, at Pine Haven Christian Home. Ellen was born on May 28, 1928, in Sheboygan, daughter of Rudolph and Emily (Ruppel) Steffen. She was a 1946 graduate of Sheboygan North High School. On September 2, 1950 she married Carroll Huenink in Cedar Grove. Carroll passed away on January 14, 1970. On March 10, 1973, she married Harold Simmelink in Cedar Grove. Harold passed away on October 23, 2011. Ellen was a member of Grace Reformed Church in Fond du Lac. She enjoyed bingo, polka music, dancing, spending time at the cottage on Wilke Lake, and family sporting events. Ellen is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Robert) Welsch of Sheboygan; her two sons, Mark (Lynn) Huenink of Appleton and Tom (Debra) Huenink of Cedar Grove; eight grandchildren, Greg (Bridget) Huenink, Kristine (Brian) Altena, Kimberlyn (Ryan) Grams, Kara (Creed) Darling, Kelli (Dan) Rado, Abby (Larry) Bousley, Kate (James) Schmitz, and Bradley (Karen) Huenink; 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Wes) Obbink of Cedar Grove, Gertrude Graaskamp of Cedar Grove, and Lucy Veldboom of Oostburg; nephews, other relatives, and friends. Ellen was preceded in death by her first husband, Carroll Huenink, and her second husband, Harold Simmelink, her parents, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Funeral services to celebrate Ellen's life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg with Rev. David Cornette officiating. Burial will take place at Presbyterian Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home from 9:00 until the time of the service at 11:00 am. A memorial fund has been established in Ellen's name for Pine Haven Christian Communities.
