Ellen Meerdink

Ellen Meerdink, 99, formerly of Cedar Grove, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls where she resided for the last 10 years. Ellen was born July 27, 1911 in the Town of Holland to John and Maude (Vander Plasse) Lubbers. She was a 1928 graduate of Cedar Grove Memorial Academy. On September 12, 1933 Ellen married Harley G. Meerdink in Cedar Grove. Harley passed away February 12, 1991. Ellen worked for many years for the Larson Canning Company. She was a charter member of Faith Reformed Church in Cedar Grove and was currently the oldest member. She was also involved with the Ladies Guild and volunteered at Campus Life in Sheboygan. Ellen enjoyed quilting, sewing, braiding rugs, baking, playing cards, and traveling. Most of all Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family. She was actively involved in each of their lives. Ellen is survived by: two daughters, Sharon (Eugene) Wisse of Oostburg and Delores (Dale) Droppers of Cedar Grove; six grandchildren, Craig (Susan) Droppers, Linda Sparks, Kurt (Julie) Wisse, Steven (Melanie) Wisse, Tim (Annette) Wisse, Chad (Cheri) Wisse; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ellen was preceded in death by her: parents; husband Harley; three sisters, Elizabeth Meylink, Janet Lubbers, Sarah Bruggink; four brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law. Funeral Services for Ellen will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Faith Reformed Church in Cedar Grove with Rev. Earl Slotman officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove cemetery. Relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Ellen's name for the Faith Reformed Church and Campus Life.
