Elizabeth "Betsy" Rohde, 63, of Batavia, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 2, 2012 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan following an apparent heart attack. Betsy was born on September 4, 1948, in New York, and was the daughter of the late Dr. Walter Jack and Betty (Shew) Brown. She graduated from Mt. Kisco, NY High School in 1966. Betsy received her BS of Nursing from Marian College in Fond du Lac and her MSN from Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee. On November 26, 1972, Betsy married Anthony H. Rohde in Mt. Kisco, NY. Betsy was an obstetric nurse at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan for the past 27 years. She was planning to retire on July 15. Betsy was also a nursing professor at Alverno College for the past ten years and for a short time at Marian College. Previously, Betsy held nursing positions at St Mary Hospital Ozaukee, Community Memorial Hospital, and Sinai Samaritan Hospital, all in the Milwaukee area. Betsy was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Batavia where she served as parish nurse, and participated in the church choir and the bell choir. Betsy volunteered much of her time to the Sheboygan County 4-H Horse Project. She had a love for animals and traveling. Betsy cherished the time she could spend with her husband, children and grandchildren. Betsy is survived by her husband, Tony of Batavia; two sons, Jake (Alicia) Rohde of Stevens Point and Phil (Sharon) Rohde of Oconto Falls; two daughters, Lori (Scott) Schuessler of the Town of Wilson, and Lisa (Jesse) Kohlwey of Batavia; a foster son, Steve Brown of Michigan; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Peg Brown of Michigan; one brother, Phil (Sharon) Brown of Kansas; and her mother-in-law, Vivian Rohde of Greendale. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Steve (Bev) Brown. A memorial service to celebrate Betsy's life will be held at the Zion United Methodist Church in Batavia on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 4 pm with the Rev. Gail Mitchell officiating.
