Elizabeth "Betty" J. Otte, 78, of Cedar Grove, passed away on Wednesday morning, November 30, 2011 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice where she had resided for the past eleven months. Betty was born on November 5, 1933 in Sheboygan, daughter of John and Phoebe (Van Driest) Kobes. She was a 1951 graduate of Oostburg High School where she was an accomplished trumpet player. Her trumpet trio even appeared on TV. On September 4, 1953 she married Richard Otte in Oostburg. Richard passed away on June 29, 2002. Betty was employed at the Larsen Canning Co. for 45 years until her retirement in 1993. Betty was a member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove, where she served on the funeral committee. She volunteered her time with numerous organizations, including the Red Cross, the Good as New Store, Pine Haven Christian Home, Campus Life and many Cedar Grove sporting events. Betty will be remembered for loyally assisting the elderly and shut-ins with car rides for shopping, and doing personal favors. She also enjoyed homemaking, music, sporting events, card playing, dominos, going out to eat, traveling, and attending musicals, plays and recitals. Betty is survived by her daughter, Dawn Arens of Sheboygan Falls; her son Craig (Barb) Otte of Cedar Grove; three grandchildren, Lance Arens and Jason and Lauren Otte; nine nieces and their spouses. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Otte; two sisters, Delores (Rev. Quentin) Moeschberger and Faye Polan; her infant brother; parents-in-law, Peter and Jeanette Otte; and her sister-in-law, Ruth (Derwin) Harmeling. Funeral services to celebrate Betty's life will be held at 4 pm on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Calvary OPC in Cedar Grove with the Rev. Ronald L. Beabout officiating. A family service will take place at 3:45 pm in the choir room. Private family burial will take place at Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland.
