Elaine Soerens

August 23, 1930 — December 5, 2009

Elaine D. Soerens, 79, formerly of the Town of Holland, died late Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Meadowview Manor where she had resided for the past four years. Elaine was born on August 23, 1930 in the Town of Lima, the daughter of the late Bernard and Ruth (Heinen) Debbink. She attended Ourtown School and was salutatorian of the 1948 graduating class of Sheboygan Falls High School. On May 26, 1950 she married Eugene Soerens in the Town of Lima. She and her husband owned a farm in the rural Cedar Grove area for many years together. Prior to her marriage Elaine worked in the payroll department for the Jung Shoe Company in Sheboygan. Following raising her children she was a salesperson at the Gibbsville Orchard for 20 years. She especially enjoyed it when children would tour the orchard. She was a longtime member of the First Reformed Church in Oostburg where she served as a librarian. Elaine was a kind, loving and hardworking woman. She enjoyed gardening, refunding, reading, crossword puzzles, and card playing. She always had a huge garden and did lots of canning and freezing. She also enjoyed growing many types of flowers. She enjoyed her family and taking them to their many events while they grew up. Elaine maintained a daily journal of day to day activities. Elaine is survived by her husband, Eugene, also a resident of Meadowview Manor in Sheboygan; four sons, David (Arlinda) of Fond du Lac, Roger (Agnes) of Sheboygan, Dale (Gail) of Oostburg, and Roy (Kathy) Soerens of Iron Ridge; four grandchildren, Ross Soerens, Sean and Cody Brace, Colin (Amber) Cody; two great grandchildren, Brianna and Khloe Brace; and two sisters, Joan (Bill) Pierce of Shawano and Carla (Rev. Ivan) DeMaster of Sheboygan. Elaine is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 2 pm with the Rev. Wayne DeVrou officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in the Town of Wilson. Friends may greet the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Wednesday from noon until the time of the service at 2 pm.
