Edward W. Kaat, 91, formerly of Hingham and Plymouth, died Sunday morning, July 14, 2013 at Pine Haven Christian Home. Ed was born on November 4, 1921 in the Town of Wilson, the son of Gillis and Jessie (Price) Kaat. He attended Sheboygan Southside Junior High School. Ed served in the US Army during WWII from 1942-46. On January 23, 1942 he married Evelyn Oonk in the Town of Lima. Evelyn preceded him in death on January 6, 1997. On July 16, 1997, he married June (Phippen) Behr in Hingham. She died on August 3, 2012. Ed was a truck driver for Motor Transport-Foreway Express for over 40 years before his retirement in 1983. Previously he had worked at Bemis Mfg., the Sheboygan County Highway Dept., and the Sheboygan County Sherriff Dept. Ed was a member of Hingham Reformed Church and the Teamster Local 75. He enjoyed traveling, playing sheepshead, playing the harmonica, and meticulously caring for his car. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ann Schreurs of Oostburg; a daughter-in-law, Donna Kaat of Plymouth; six grandchildren, Julie (Jim) Blok, Jeffrey (DeeDee) Schreurs, Stacy Schreurs, Brenda (Tim) Veldboom, Diana (Steve) Schukow, Brian (Kelly) Kaat; 15 great grandchildren; one great great grandaughter; two sisters-in-law, Althea Kaat and Doris Oonk, both of Oostburg; six step daughters, Sharon (Joe) Schneider of Sheboygan Falls, Bonnie (Dennis) Theune of Crandon, Kathy (friend David) Behr of Plymouth, Lori (Brian) Basler of Cleveland, Donna (Steve) Ottman of Sheboygan Falls, Christine (Robert) Lemkuil of Plymouth. He is also survived by step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his first and second wives, Evelyn and June; one son, James Kaat; and seven brothers. A private burial service will be held at the Hingham Cemetery in the Town of Lima with the Rev. Steven Bakker officiating. A memorial fund is being established in his memory for the Pine Haven Christian Communities.
