Edith VerGowe

Edith M. VerGowe, 83, of Gibbsville, passed away on Wednesday morning, May 15, 2013, at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls. Edith was born on November 30, 1929, in the Town of Lima, daughter of John Sr. and Ella (TeLindert) Damkot. She was a 1947 graduate of Oostburg High School. On June 30, 1948, she married Ellsworth VerGowe in Gibbsville. Ellsworth passed away on December 25, 2009. Edith was a lifelong member of Gibbsville Reformed Church and the Bethany Circle. She was a Cub Scout leader and belonged to the Homemakers Club. Edith enjoyed crocheting and knitting, crafts, jig saw and word puzzles, playing cards, canning and baking, entertaining, playing piano and listening to hymns, and spending special times with her grandchildren. Edith is survived by three daughters, Bev Dulmes of Hingham, Carol (Greg) Steindl of Oostburg, and Joan (Greg) Larson of Sheboygan; one son, Roger (Suzette) VerGowe of Howards Grove; eight grandchildren, Joe Steindl, Jacque Cavanaugh, Joe (Beckie) Cavanaugh, Jerica Cavanaugh, Joshua Larson, Sarah Larson, Brent VerGowe, and Nikki VerGowe; four great-grandchildren, Addilyn Cavanaugh, Alexandria, Alizae and Karsyn Steindl; one sister-in-law, Edith Damkot of Oostburg; nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, Ellsworth, son-in-law, Vonley Dulmes; three brothers, John Damkot, Clifford (Lillian) Damkot, and Wilmer (Dorothy) Mentink, Funeral services to celebrate Edith's life will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, May 20, 2013, at Gibbsville Reformed Church with Rev. John Ornee officiating. A family service will precede at 10:15 am in the choir room. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, and at church, on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:30 am.
