Edgar Zingsheim

March 22, 1939 — June 30, 2015

Edgar W. Zingsheim, 76, of Oostburg was lovingly welcomed into heaven on Tuesday morning, June 30, 2015 while surrounded by his family. Ed was born on March 22, 1939 in Lomira, the son of the late Felix and Laura (Hoerth) Zingsheim. He graduated from Mayville High School in 1956 and then served with the US Army in Germany. He married Judith Steffes on September 16, 1967 in St. Joe. Ed started a 40 year career with Kindt and Wickes Lumber before retiring from UBC in 2002. During his retirement he built homes for three of his children. Ed was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Parish in Kohler and former member at St. George Catholic Church in the Town of Wilson where he served as church council president. He was also a past president of the Oostburg Jaycees and was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Ed loved spending time at his home on Lake Noquebay and his yearly fishing trips with friends and captain nights. Many hours were spent playing sheepshead with family and friends. He also enjoyed bowling, golf, yardwork, woodworking, fix-it projects, traveling, spending winters in Florida, and time with his grandchildren. Ed is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy; two daughters, Betty (Steven) Koopman and Amy (Greg) Strahl, both of Oostburg; two sons, Jeff (Heidi) Zingsheim of Lomira and Mark Zingsheim of Brainerd, MN; five grandchildren, Dayne, Jaye, and Dalton Zingsheim, Landon Strahl and Connor Koopman; a step granddaughter, Alex Koopman; one sister, Mary Jane (Harvey) Serwe of Lomira; four brothers, Dave (Delores) Zingsheim of Oconomowoc, Jim (Judy) Zingsheim of New Caney, TX, Tom (Barb) Zingsheim of Waupun, and Roy (Rosie) Zingsheim of Fond du Lac; four sisters-in-law, Delores Petrie of St. Peter, Donna Steffes of Taycheedah, Pat Birschbach of Mt. Calvary, and Mary Ann (Gene) Birschbach of New Holstein; and three brothers-in-law, Donald (Joan) Steffes of St. Joe, Joe (Raye) Steffes of Fond du Lac, and Vern (Gail) Steffes of St. Peter. Ed is also survived by a dear friend, Gene Burg of St. Joe; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers-in-law, Eugene Steffes, Elmer Petrie, Henry Birschbach, and Sylvan Steffes. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place to celebrate Ed's life on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 10:30 am at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Kohler with the Rev. Bob Lotz officiating. Military Honors will follow. Family and friends will gather at the church on Sunday from 3-7 pm, and on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of Mass at 10:30 am.
