Earl H. Harmelink, 97, formerly of Oostburg and Pine Haven Christian Home, went to be with his Lord on Monday, March 30, 2009 at Sunny Ridge Health Care & Rehab Center. Earl was born May 30, 1911 in the Town of Lima, the son of the late William and Minnie (Wilterdink) Harmelink. On October 30, 1934, he married Evelyn Faas. The couple celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary last October. Earl operated the family farm in the Town of Lima until his retirement. Earl was a lifelong member of Gibbsville Reformed Church where he served as elder and deacon. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and Oostburg Kiwanis and a long time volunteer for Meals on Wheels. After his retirement at age 73, he traveled to many areas in the United States. Earl enjoyed the outdoors and was blessed with a rich life and good health, being a role model for many. He enjoyed reading, golf, drinking coffee, bowling, and bicycling until he was 90. Survivors include his wife Evelyn; three daughters, Mary Lou (Don) DuMez of Oostburg, Darlene (Ron) Navis of Sheboygan, Bonnie (Stan) Ramaker of Fond du Lac; one son, Glenn (Luann) Harmelink of Marshalltown, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Julie (Phil) Meyer, Debra (Chris) Bischoff, John (Julie) DuMez, Jeff (Jen) DeMez, Michael Navis, Nicole Navis, Will (Amy) Navis, Rebecca (Ryan) O'Neil, Chad (Nicole) Ramaker, Terrill Harmelink; and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, three brothers, a granddaughter, Heidi Harmelink, and grandparents. His maternal grandparents were survivors of the Phoenix Shipwreck in Lake Michigan in 1847. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Gibbsville Reformed Church, with the Rev. Gerald A. Dykstra, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home, 108 Center Ave., Oostburg on Thursday, April 2, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday at the church, N3145 Hwy. 32, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the family service at 10:45 a.m. A memorial fund will be established in his name.
