Dr. James L. Weygandt, 92, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Pine Haven Christian Home. Jim was born on September 30, 1924, "on the farm" in Wayne County, Ohio, son of Otis and Edith (Webner) Weygandt. Jim was the oldest of four brothers. He was a 1942 graduate of Chester High School in Wayne Co. He attended The College of Wooster and received his doctorate at Western Reserve Medical School in Cleveland. Jim served his residency at Akron City Hospital and his internship at Milwaukee County Hospital. He served in the US Navy from 1943-1946. On July 11, 1953, Jim married Jane Lyon in Wauwatosa. Jim moved to Sheboygan Falls in 1955 and began his family medical practice, which he operated for 25 years. He was then employed as the company physician with the Kohler Co. for 14 years. He also assisted basketball coach Moose Woltzen at Lakeland College with team injuries. Jim was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls, where he served as an elder, deacon, historian, usher, sang in the choir, and assisted with the sound ministry. He was active on the Advisory Council on Highway Safety, Sheboygan Falls Chamber of Commerce, People to People International, Governor's Task Force on Seat Belts and Drinking and Driving, and the American Association of Automotive Medicine. Jim took part in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight on November 3, 2012. He enjoyed reading, classical music, yardwork, traveling, photography, genealogy, Bridge, and would enjoy sitting in the stands at Sheboygan Falls High School sporting events and help when a player was injured. Jim and his wife, Jane, were instrumental in bringing the Campfire Girls program to Sheboygan Falls along with many fond memories at Camp Bird near Crivitz. Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jane; his two daughters, Carolyn (Mark) Buzek of Norfolk, VA and Elizabeth (Joe) Kontur of San Jose, CA; his three sons, Scott Weygandt of Sheboygan Falls, John Weygandt of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Alan (Elaine) Weygandt of Kiel; seven grandchildren, Eric Kontur, Mark Kontur, Andrew (Valerie) Weygandt, Brittany (Austin) Souto, Rebecca Weygandt, Stephen Weygandt, and Michelle Weygandt; his brother, Dale (Nancy) Weygandt of Medina, OH; and brother-in-law, Joseph (Lois) Lyon of Arlington Heights, IL. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Alfred (Dorothy) and Harold (Marilyn) Weygandt. A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Brad Veenendaal officiating. Private inurnment and Military Honors will take place at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at the church on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 1-3 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Jim's name for the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
