Dorrine Smies

Dorrine E. Smies, 82, of Oostburg, died Sunday evening, July 12, 2015 at Sheboygan Progressive Care Center. Dorrine was born on July 1, 1933 in the Town of Holland, the daughter of Alvin and Bernice (Weavers) DeBruine. She graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1950 and then attended the Sheboygan Business College. On June 4, 1954 she married LeRoy D. Smies in Cedar Grove. Dorrine worked as traffic manager for the Curt G. Joa Co. for 26 years before her retirement in 1999. Dorrine was a member of Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg. She enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, gardening, music and playing cards. Dorrine is survived by her husband of 61 years, LeRoy; two daughters, Barb (Mark) Kaat of Colorado and Carol Smies of Oostburg; two sons, Ron (Kim) Smies of Oostburg and Mark (Lori) Smies of Sheboygan; six grandchildren, Amanda (Joseph) Romaro, Adam Kaat, Joshua and Joseph Smies, Tye and Shannan Smies; three great grandchildren, Andrew and EmmaKay Vu and Isabella Romaro; one sister, Mary Blank of Pittsburgh; one brother, Allan DeBruine of Janesville; and three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Jack) DeTroye, MaryAnn (Rich) Claerbaut, both of Oostburg and Janet (Frank) Wahlstrom of California. Dorrine was preceded in death by her parents and one brother-in-law, Glenn Blank. A funeral to celebrate Dorrine's life will take place at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Bethel OPC in Oostburg with the Rev. John Tinsley officiating. Burial will follow at Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Family and friends may gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Friday from 4-7 pm, and on Saturday, at church from 9:30 am until the time of the service.
