Dorothy Voskuil

Dorothy G. Voskuil, 94, of the Town of Lima, died peacefully early Thursday morning, March 15, 2012 at Pine Haven Christian Home where she had resided for the past year. Dorothy was born on July 22, 1917 in the Town of Lima, daughter of Wallace and Angeline (Kappers) Ongna. She attended Horace Mann School. On June 21, 1939 she married Harold Voskuil in the Town of Lima. Harold passed away on January 2, 2010 following over 70 years of marriage. Dorothy was a lifelong member of Gibbsville Reformed Church where she was active in the choir, the Women's Missionary Society, Christian Endeavor, and the Bethany Circle. For over 20 years Dorothy was active in the tape ministry, delivering tapes and bulletins to residents at Pine Haven Christian Home. Dorothy was a charter member of the Old Timers Pony Club. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, needlework, word puzzles, music, and horses. Dorothy will always be remembered as a devoted homemaker and compassionate caregiver to many family members since she was a young girl. Even though Dorothy never attended high school or college, she raised her six children well and taught them to serve the Lord. Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Angeline (David) Hoftiezer of Gibbsville and Lynn (Larry) Reimes of Gibbsville; four sons, Wendel (Diane) Voskuil of Oostburg, Rev. Roger (Kathy) Voskuil of Sioux Center, IA, Fred (Kathy) Voskuil of Oostburg, and Lee (Mary) Voskuil of Gibbsville; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Marge Voskuil of Sheboygan Falls. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Harold, and two brothers, Harvey (Alvera) Ongna and Gordon (Sarah) Ongna. Funeral services to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Gibbsville Reformed Church with Rev. John Ornee and Rev. Roger Voskuil co-officiating. A family service will take place at 10:15 am in the choir room. Burial will take place in Hingham Cemetery in the Town of Lima. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday from 4-8 pm, and on Monday, at church, from 9:30 until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established in Dorothy's name for Gibbsville Reformed Church and Pine Haven Christian Communities.
