Dorothy Theune

Dorothy Theune, 95, of Oostburg went home to her Lord on Saturday morning, March 15, 2014 at Pine Haven Residential Home where she had resided for the past 2 years. Dorothy was born on April 11, 1918 in the Town of Wilson, the daughter of the late Garret and Johanna (Roerdink) Nyenhuis. She graduated from Sheboygan High School in 1936. On December 17, 1937 she married Isaac L. Theune in Sheboygan. Isaac preceded her in death on October 21, 1974. Dorothy was a devoted homemaker for her family and also worked at the Cedar Grove Dairy, Daane Red Owl Grocery Store, Oostburg Bakery, and Phillips Sales. She and her husband were also vegetable farmers. Dorothy was a member of Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg and enjoyed bowling, tatting, knitting, crocheting, embroidery and traveling. Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Doris (Thomas) Triphan of Richland Center, Shirley (Richard) VerVelde and Diane (Larry) Dana, both of Oostburg; one son, Robert (Karen) Theune of Appleton; eight grandchildren, David (Ann) and Michael (Jill) Triphan, Sherri (Dirk) Roerdink, Brett (Lisa) VerVelde, Ryan (Heather) Dana, Scott (Tammy) and Russ (Caroline) Theune and Kristin (Tom) Schrei; 15 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; one sister, Margaret VanderPuy of Grand Rapids, Michigan; one sister-in-law, Margaret (Harry) Neustel of the Town of Lima; and two brothers-in-law, Warren (Mary) Theune and Marvin (Delores Theune, both of Oostburg. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, Carl Triphan; two sisters, Evelyn (Martin "Buster") Wondergem and Betty (Donald) Shufflebotham; five brothers, William (Alice), Harvey (Minnie), Edward (Jo), Henry (Olive), and Lester (Pearl) Nyenhuis. A funeral to celebrate Dorothy's life will take place at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 6 pm with the Revs. John Tinsley and David Veldhorst officiating. Burial will take place at Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Family and friends will gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Thursday from 3 pm until the time of the service at 6 pm.
