Dorothy Sluys

Dorothy H. Van Sluys, 90, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Wednesday, July 02, 2014, at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. Dorothy was born on December 15, 1923 in Sheboygan, daughter of Clarence and Ann (Brooks) Voigt. She was a 1941 graduate of Sheboygan North High School. On November 27, 1943, she married Marvin J. Van Sluys in Sheboygan. Marvin passed away on May 3, 2000. Dorothy was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls. She was involved in the catholic faith community of St. Mary, a member of Christian Mother's, a lay distributor for communion, and volunteered for the parish in various other ways. Dorothy volunteered at both public and catholic schools for reading. She also was a devoted caretaker for her mother. Dorothy was an excellent seamtress, good cook, enjoyed crafts and loved her books and movies. She will be remembered for her beautiful flower beds and all of her "good ones". Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Gary) Pyrek of Portage; two grandchildren, Kimberly (Thomas Jr.) Jacobson of Minnesota and Jill (Eric Zimmerman)Pyrek of Milwaukee; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann, Abbigale Michelle, and Thomas Jacobson III. Dorothy is further survived by nieces and nephews, the family of Vernon Arenz, dear friends, and special neighbors. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Marvin, her parents, one sister, Virginia (Herbert) Burhop, and her special friend, Vernon Arenz. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Bob Lotz officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Sheboygan Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dorothy's name for St. Nicholas Hospital ENT department for the purchase of a Weerda diverticuloscope instrument.
