Doris Elizabeth Soerens Doris E. Soerens, 81, formerly of Cedar Grove and Pine Haven Christian Home, died Monday, January 5, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Mequon. Doris was born October 27, 1927 in the Town of Holland, the daughter of the late Elmer and Mildred (Du Mez) Prinsen. She was a 1945 graduate of Wisconsin Memorial Academy in Cedar Grove. On September 13, 1947 Doris married Robert H. Soerens in the Town of Holland. He preceded her in death on July 15, 2008. Doris worked at Musebeck Shoe Co. for 18 years and then did housekeeping at the Cedar Grove Clinic for 15 years before retiring in 2003. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove and the American Legion Auxiliary. Throughout her life, Doris donated blood for the American Red Cross eventually donating more than 20 gallons. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Jerry) Simmelink of West Bend, Susan (Ken) Nelson of Mequon; four sons, Larry (Terry) of Madison, Chad (friend Ven Weeks) of Honduras, Randall (Betty) of Random Lake, and Joel (Joy) Soerens of Sheboygan; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley (John) Hoitink of Cedar Grove, Carla (Russ) Stahl of Elk Grove Village, Ill., Phyllis Melzer of Milwaukee; one brother, Laverne (Marion) Prinsen of Cedar Grove; three brothers-in-law, Robert Meinen of Cedar Grove, Harold "Archie" Soerens of Oostburg, Kenneth Soerens of La Crosse; three sisters-in-law, Donna Prinsen of Cedar Grove, Geraldine Novshek of Port Washington, and Lenore "Lynn" Payne of Scottsdale, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, one sister, Lenore Meinen and a brother, Glenn Prinsen. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, with the Rev. Kent Vant Hul, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Spring. Friends may call at the church on Monday, January 19, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. A memorial fund will be established in her name for Friends of the Cedar Grove Public Library with a goal of enhancing the large print collection of the library.
