Doris M. Kohlhagen Hammerschmidt, 90, of Sheboygan Falls passed away Sunday morning, February 16, 2025 at Aurora Medical Center - Sheboygan County.
Born December 13, 1934 in Marinette, WI, Doris was the daughter of William and Linda (Krueger) Gannigan. The family moved to Sheboygan Falls in 1940 where she attended Weeden Station Grade School and then Oostburg High School.

Doris worked at Die-Cast in Sheboygan Falls for 21 years, then did some babysitting for a number of years. She enjoyed camping, baking, cleaning and working at Ella’s Dela. She often baked cookies for the Eye Department at the Sheboygan Clinic (or wherever her son Glen felt like dropping them off). She looked forward to her weekly car rides around the county with David (especially by Oostburg Bakery on the way to Terry Andrae, and stopping to see her great-grandkids).
Doris is survived by her sons Glen (Lynn) Kohlhagen and David Kohlhagen; grandchildren Christy (Brandon) Staab, Calley (Jonny) Mize and Taylor (Hailee) Kohlhagen; six great-grandchildren: Gordon, Abigail, Layla, Wesley, William and Charlie; step-son Robert (Tammy) Hammerschmidt; sisters Betty Mavis, Beverly VanEgen and Shirley (Dell) Dassow; sister-in-law Penny Kohlhagen, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husbands Richard and Glen Sr., son Dennis Kohlhagen, step-son Glen Hammerschmidt Jr., sisters Caroline (Chester) Ribbens, Evelyn (Robert) Leannah and Almira Gannigan, brothers Leslie “Bush” (Delores) Gannigan, Clarmont “Curly” (Esther) Gannigan and William Gannigan Jr., brothers-in-law Bill Mavis, Demo VanEgen and Eugene “Pudgy” (Gail) Kohlhagen and sister-in-law Lois (Rodney) Woveras.
A Memorial Service for Doris will take place at 1:00PM at Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Saturday, March 15, 2025. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00AM-1:00PM.
Doris will be laid to rest at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery beside her beloved husbands, Richard and Glen Sr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Sheboygan Falls Main Street for the floral boxes or the Sheboygan Falls Lions for the lagoon water feature.
The family would like to thank the Sheboygan Falls Police Department and First Responders, Judy for helping out around the house, Jessica for styling her hair and making her feel good, her sister Betty for being a dear friend, Dave K for helping plant the flowers around the yard which she loved, and the Sheboygan Falls First Responders and Sheboygan Falls Police Department, especially Matt, for their kind and compassionate care.
