Donna M. Hartmann, 54, of the Town of Fredonia died peacefully at her home with her family at her side on Sunday morning, January 20, 2013 following a year long illness with ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease). Donna was born on September 8, 1958 in Sheboygan, the daughter of Donald and Sylvia (Verhulst) Horn. Donna attended St John Lutheran School, was a 1977 graduate of Random Lake High School and attended Lakeshore Technical College for Clothing Services. On June 17, 1978 she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Dennis Hartmann. Together they were high school homecoming and prom king and queen. They made their home in the Town of Fredonia, by their family business, Hartmann Sand and Gravel. Donna was an accomplished seamstress, starting her own business, Donna's Draperies which she operated for over 30 years. She specialized in bridal gowns, home furnishings, alterations, and the fabrication of custom window treatments. Donna was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sherman Center. It was there that she was baptized, confirmed and married. While her sons were in school she was an active volunteer at school and recently served on the funeral lunch committee. Donna was active in Sheboygan County 4-H for ten years which is where she found her love for home economics. Donna enjoyed embroidery, motorcycle riding, sewing, and being a grandma. She will be remembered for her engaging smile, leading a Christian lifestyle, thinking of others first, and always making time for her family. Her top priorities were to her God first, and then family. Donna is survived by her husband of 34 years, Dennis; two sons, Doug (special friend Nicole Thompson) Hartmann and Dan (Teresa) Hartmann, both of Fredonia; two grandchildren, Anthony Rautmann and Leila Hartmann; her mother, Sylvia Horn of Sherman Center; grandmother, LaVerne Verhulst of Sheboygan Falls; two brothers, Richard (Cory) Horn and David (Sheri) Horn, both of Adell; mother-in-law, Delphine Hartmann, four sisters-in-law, Karen (Jim) Vorpahl and Gail (Dale) Demler, both of Random Lake, Marilyn (Mickey) Sabec of Fredonia, and Linda (special friend Heather) Rassel of Hamilton, Ohio. Donna is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Donna was preceded in death by her father, Donald Horn; a brother, Dennis Horn; grandparents, Howard and Verna Horn and Eugene Verhulst; father-in-law, Fredrick "Fritz" Hartmann; and brother-in-law, Fredrick "Rick" Hartmann. A funeral to celebrate Donna's life will take place at St. John Lutheran Church in Sherman Center at 3 pm on Thursday, January 24, 2013 with the Rev. Randal Schoemann officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sherman Center. Family and friends may gather at St John Lutheran Church in Sherman Center on Wednesday from 3-8 pm and on Thursday from 1pm until the time of the service at 3 pm.
